How to password protect a PDF
Adding a password before you share a personal or confidential document keeps the wrong person from opening it.
Steps
- Tap Protect on the home screen and choose protect mode.
- Pick the PDF you want to protect.
- Type a strong password in Password; tap the eye icon to check it.
- Save, then use Share or Export on the result card.
- Send the password through a different channel than the file (for example the file by email, the password by phone).
Good to know
- Android uses AES-256; iPhone and iPad use standard 128-bit PDF encryption, the strongest iOS offers. On iPhone the password must use English letters, digits and symbols only.
- There is no way to recover a forgotten password; the app does not store it anywhere.
- The protected file opens with the password in any standard PDF reader.
